8 Rules To A Better Life

Thursday, December 20, 2012

Pinterest. The site where millions of people live vicariously through pictures. But it isn't just that. I have found great comfort and laughter in words, phrases, and pictures there. On Nebraska's first snow storm of the year, my day was consumed with "pinning". This one especially stuck out to me.
8 Rules To A Better Life

2. Don't Worry
3. Live simply
4. Expect a little
5. Give a lot
6. Always smile

Mildred & Bernice

Thursday, December 6, 2012

'Tis the season folks. What's on your wish list? Do you know what should be? The simple yet extraordinary pieces from the jewelry line Mildred & Bernice. With the combination of the deep warm wood shades and geometric shapes, this jewelry needs to be at the top of your list.
Ashley, designer of the line, is a former Alpha Phi and was gracious enough to have a trunk show here at Alpha Phi leaving me lusting for more! Find these unique pieces like my favorites below and much more at etsy. Oh and did I mention there is free shipping through the holidays?

Remember this statement piece from my last post?
"All of my pieces are handmade and formed around the wood grain which enables your piece to be unique and one of a kind! This process of love starts from carving each piece individually followed my many stages of sanding and buffing. Oil is then applied to bring out the richness of wood grain, then three layers of a micro-crystalline wax are added to help
with water resistance."

College Fashionista Internship

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

In the midst of dead week preparing for finals, I received some exciting news. I have been chosen as the Style Guru for UNL through CollegeFashionista. I am very eager and excited to be working with CollegeFashionista and I will be sure to keep you all up to date with what is to come, so stay posted! Below is my mock trial for the internship featuring my friend and fellow blogger, Libby Lemke.

FUR, FLORAL, FASHIONISTA O MY! Nebraskan fashionista, Libby Lemke, was spotted wearing three of the biggest trends this season: faux fur, floral pants, and chambray.
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?
Libby Lemke: A chambray button up from J-Crew, floral pants and brown booties from target, and a faux fur vest.
CF: What are your favorite trends this season?
LL: My favorite trends are embellished collars, combat boots, loafers, and denim shirts.
CF: Who or what inspires your style?
LL: There really isn’t a specific person; I just like classic layering pieces that are very versatile so I can mix with different things in my wardrobe.
CF: Being in sorority, there are many socials, what is your go to look for a formal?
LL: I like to go with a simple dress then really glam it up with bold statement accessories.
CF: What is your one fashion item you can’t live with out?
LL: Right now it would have to be my denim button down from J-Crew, I wear it all the time!
How To: One would think that the combination of faux fur, floral pants, and chambray all sound a bit too distracting to wear all together. It may even sound like your classic over-accessorizing dilemma. But ladies, it is possible to put these big trends together in a chic and effortless way without looking like you’re trying too hard to be the next Carrie Bradshaw. Now, I’m not saying it’s an easy task, but once you master the technique of blending, you can be bolder in your fashion endeavors too. It’s fun and feminine to dress up your floral pants with other prints and textures. Adding a fur vest is the perfect way to add texture and dress it up. The chambray jacket underneath is simple enough to allow you to add the fur vest; it gives you a more effortless look, like a white tee would similarly do. Pair your ensemble with some ankle booties and voila, you’ve become a fashionista!
