Those Who Wear Hats

floppy hat | In good faith, Tess

I’m a sucker for hats. They're are a fun, unique accessory, and they occasionally allow me to go a day longer without washing my hair. I often find myself staring at this particular large, floppy hat each morning as I blankly stare at my closet wondering,    “What      am      I       gonna      wear      today.”                Randomly I have this tiny battle with myself, “No, I can’t wear that to class. Not in Nebraska. . .” Finally once I decide why do I care, the hat then brings other challenges...  “Do I take the hat off once I'm inside and if so, then where do I put it?  If I haven't washed my hair in a few days, you couldn't pay me to take it off.  But on a second thought, I’m a poor college student...  The Man Repeller, Leandra Medine, commented on those who wear hats, “The most blaring indication that to wear a hat is not just to make a statement, but to yell that you are the type of woman who knows how to pull off a hat.  And so, by the power vested in your indispensable swag, you will.”   Preach it Leandra, preach it!  A writer for the Man Repeller offered another perspective, that when you wear a hat, “You look like an asshole.” She said that the reason hat-wearers probably appear as they do is because wearing the topper takes a lot of confidence.  Enough, at least, to seriously believe that everyone else has got it wrong, but you’ve got it right.  I took on Leandra’s challenge of emulating that confidence in the look below.

I’m trying to hold onto my summer pieces as long as I can, while taking on another challenge of mastering white after Labor Day.  Some say white after Labor Day is a “no-no”, but the only reason I can think of why is if you get as white as I do in the winter, then it isn't the most flattering hue for your skin color.  The Labor Day rule has met resistance from as far back as the 20s, when Coco Chanel made white a year-round staple.  I think a great solution is off-white.  It’s not as harsh as pure white, and more fitting for the cooler season.  I have sought after an off-white blazer for sometime now, and this wool blazer comes pretty darn close to perfection.  I wore a screen printed tee underneath with patterned shorts, and accessorized with my floppy hat and Jeffrey Campbell inspired booties. The blazer, tee, and shorts are all from Togs boutique.

If you know me, you probably know that I am a sucker for anything leather.  And if you really know me, you know that I tend to follow an “anti-pant” lifestyle.  However, I highly doubt I’m the only one whom upon getting home immediately takes off their pants or changes.  (If this is beginning to feel like a “TMI” moment, I apologize, but bear with me here.)  While I do hate pants, I do enjoy the occasional pair of leggings, especially leather ones.  I all too often reach for a pair of my leather leggings when I’m pushed for time or feeling a little sassy.  So you could probably understand that when I spotted these quilted faux-leather leggings at togs boutique, I had to have them.  Feeling a little swanky, I paired the bottoms with this rad kaleidoscope-looking printed peplum and teal studded clutch.  Now if you’re saying to yourself, “Hey, I’m feeling a little sassy,” you too can get this look.  The leggings, peplum, and clutch are all available at togs boutique!

Check out Togs on facebook and instagram, you will be swooning!
